Navigating Cross-Border Distribution: Lessons from the Polish Market

By Alexandre Oliveira Costa | International Industrial Procurement & Supply-Chain Executive · January 2026

Poland’s automotive sector has grown dramatically over the past two decades. The country is now home to major production facilities for Volkswagen, Stellantis, Toyota, and dozens of Tier-1 and Tier-2 suppliers. This concentration of manufacturing activity makes Poland one of the most important automotive markets in Central Europe.

What Makes Poland Distinctive

Polish manufacturers operate within a demanding quality culture shaped by their integration into German and Japanese supply chains. Delivery reliability, documentation accuracy, and responsiveness are non-negotiable. Distributors who cannot maintain consistent service levels are quickly replaced.

At the same time, Poland’s position within the EU single market simplifies many aspects of cross-border trade. Import documentation, customs procedures, and regulatory compliance are streamlined compared to markets outside the EU.

Building Long-Term Relationships

In our experience, the Polish market rewards distributors who invest time in understanding their customers’ technical requirements. Regular communication, proactive inventory management, and the ability to provide engineering support are differentiators that build durable partnerships.

Korpen’s foundation in the Polish market has given us a deep understanding of how to serve technically demanding customers — experience that directly informs how we approach our relationships in South Korea and China.
